When Emily Wayborn goes home to visit her mom while on hiatus from her hit TV show, she receives a voicemail from her former best friend, Amber. Though the two were once notorious party girls, they haven’t spoken in years. Although the message might sound benign to anyone else, Amber uses a safe word that Emily recognizes, a word they always used to get out of sticky situations during their wild days. And what’s more chilling than the voicemail: it turns out that Amber has gone missing.

Now Emily is on the hunt to find out what happened to Amber, a hunt that leads her to sexy enigmatic billionaire Reeve Sallis, a hotelier known for his shady dealings and play boy reputation. Reeve might have had something to do with Amber’s disappearance, but Emily can’t help the way she reacts to him.
Time is running out and Emily must figure out who she can trust and if she can trust her feelings.

BOOK REVIEW: Last Kiss

Book Series:

RATING:

“This doesn’t change anything, Emily. You still belong to me.”

I never imagined a story could keep me this enthralled and this invested for so long, but this has been such a unique and unforgettable reading experience for me, I find myself still reeling from it. Fast-paced and flawlessly plotted, this is a story that keeps slipping through our fingers until the very last page, its characters exposing more and more of themselves as the story unfolds, all woven together by this author’s irresistible writing style that pulls us in with a sexy promise of mystery and danger, but then holds us captive by turning this story on its head time and time again, by making our hearts hurt, scream, rejoice, all the while delighting our senses with the perfect touch of spice and sizzle. A most addictive exploration of a woman’s darkest desires, set against a backdrop of mystery, deception, secrets, and a thorny romance that never stops making our hearts race—this was a story I loved so much and I never stopped craving for more.

He was the master of my heart and my body. Maybe even the master of my soul. But she still held parts of me in her clutch, still had power over them like a voodoo queen in possession of a doll in my likeness.

Amber has returned. As the thick veil of mystery surrounding her disappearance has finally been lifted, we find our heroine, Emily, in the very situation she had vowed years ago she would never find herself in again—standing between her best friend and the man she loves. It might have all started as a sham, but from the first time Reeve touched her, Emily’s heart has known that she would never find another man to whom she’d want to belong more, or whose touch would set her free the same way. But as we delve deeper into all that ties Emily to Amber, the complex past they share and all the ways it has shaped them into the women they are today, we discover all the reasons why their bond has never been severed. And all that Emily is prepared to do for her friend’s happiness.

“You can’t have both of us.”
“I don’t want both of you.”
“She’s the only one you can have.”

We discover a young woman for whom trust and love have always been synonymous, neither capable of existing without the other, but both equally difficult to give. We discover a woman who has never felt unconditionally loved in her life, who tied herself to the first person in her life who understood her, protected her, and made her feel cherished. She helped an awkward teenager blossom into a confident, sensual young woman, but it is not until Emily meets Reeve that she finally discovers and embraces her true self.

Pleasing him wasn’t just satisfying—it was necessary for my own happiness, just as his happiness depended on my obedience.

But regardless of how much Emily’s mind craves to submit to Reeve, how visceral their attraction is or how desperately her body aches to be used and pushed to its limits by him, her heart stubbornly refuses to surrender to him. She continues to see him as an antagonist in her life, questioning his motives and his love for her, incapable of believing she could ever be anyone’s first choice. Because no man has ever chosen her over someone like Amber, and her own insecurities remind her of that every single day. But then again, she’s never met a man like Reeve before.

“I miss you.”
“Don’t say that.”
“I miss your body.”
“You miss what it will let you do to it.”
“Yes, but I miss you too.”

A seductive tale whose many twists and turns kept me guessing until the very end, this was a page-turner like no other, and one I am still ‘deciphering’ in my head. The sheer complexity of these characters, their attachments, their every interaction, hooked me in from the start and then left me pondering on this story long after I first finished it. And I am still thinking about it. I found myself truly addicted to the many intricate emotional ties binding these imperfect characters to one another, intrigued by them, fascinated by them, yet this story never stopped feeling profoundly romantic to me, and the more we learned of these characters, the more that love story kept coming into focus. An absolute must-read.

“Yes, I can. The question is, can you take it if what I want is to love you?”
