But her excitement is quickly hampered by the knowledge that, though they are no longer married, Ryle is still very much a part of her life—and Atlas Corrigan is the one man he will hate being in his ex-wife and daughter’s life.

✭ NBJ TOP RECOMMENDATION | SECOND CHANCES + FRIENDS TO LOVERS + ROMANCE OVER 40 + SINGLE PARENT + SMALL TOWN
Divorced for two years, August Reynolds needs a change. He and his teenage son, Reese, pack up and move to Briar County, the home August left at fourteen. He’s hoping it’ll help him and Reese connect again, that Reese will come into his own there the way August did. For him, it was all because of Clint Jones, his childhood best friend and first crush.
At forty-two, Clint figures he’s probably never going to find the one. He’s dated on and off, but he’s never fallen in love. He has his business, his dogs, his friends and family. Most of the time, that’s enough, but then August moves home—Clint’s first kiss and bisexual awakening—making him realize he might be lonelier than he thought.
Clint and August fall back into an easy friendship. Some of their best childhood memories are the days they spent at the creek: talking, laughing, and learning about who they were. But now they’re adults, the attraction palpable between them. It’s not long before they’re tumbling into bed, stealing moments for secret kisses and spending days exploring each other.
They can’t move too fast, though. Reese misses his other father, and sometimes August worries Reese would rather be with him. They’re just getting their life on track, and the last thing August wants is to shake it up by telling Reese he’s with Clint. But as it turns out, that’s not the only obstacle in their way…

Crew Madigan is a snowboarding legend. He’s gorgeous, rich, famous and every woman’s dream. Well, except mine. I’ll take a nerdy guy with a clumsy streak who wouldn’t know what to do with a pair of skis to save his life. Superstar athletes? No, thanks. World champions? Hard pass. Crew? Definitely not.
It’s been over a decade since Crew set foot on Madigan Mountain. Instead of sitting with his family during his brother’s wedding, he takes the chair beside mine. ESPN really doesn’t do that chiseled jaw justice. The cameras miss the flecks of gold in his eyes. When he invites me to his hotel room after the wedding, I break all of my own rules for just one night.
But here’s the problem with just one night. Crew is impossible to forget. And he’s not the only one who loves a thrill. The crash, the broken bones, are inevitable. Because together, we’re a little too wild.
This is the third book in the Madigan Mountain series—co-written with Sarina Bowen and Rebecca Yarros—of standalone novels with interconnected characters.

SECOND CHANCES + SINGLE MUM + SMALL TOWN
He needs to get her out of his system. Just once…
Hank Weller doesn’t help people. He leaves that do-gooder nonsense to his best friend, Beau Winston. Hank does what he wants, when he wants, with whomever he wants—and Hank does not want to hire Charlotte Mitchell to be an exotic dancer at his club, The Pink Pony. Sure, he can’t help noticing the dips and curves of her, how shrewd, smart, and funny she is, the fire in her hazel eyes. He’s always noticed. She’d probably draw a crowd and entice the regulars. But after Charlotte’s messy, public divorce made Hank’s club out to be the culprit—and made her the single mother of four kids—he doesn’t need or want any additional bad press courtesy of Charlotte Mitchell. Or the distraction. Unfortunately for him, the town’s prettiest charity case doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words nope, no, and never.
Charlotte Mitchell doesn’t much like Hank Weller. Once upon a time, she used to. Years ago, she liked him a whole heckofalot despite other folks in town labeling him as “eccentric” and “nonconformist,” which were polite southern alternatives to “filthy rich” and “self-centered douchebag.” Her opinion of him changed dramatically after he volunteered to be her date to junior prom and then promptly stood her up. They haven’t so much as acknowledged each other in over a decade. But a sudden family emergency means Charlotte needs access to Hank’s club ASAP. Unfortunately for her, the narcissistic fancy-pants doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words help, generosity, and compassion.
But he’s about to find himself schooled. Charlotte is going to teach Hank a lesson once and for all about basic human decency, whether he likes it or not.
Spoiler alert. . . he likes it.

Kate Canterbary is an author whose books I buy without even reading the blurbs, and her latest novel is to die for. It’s the story of a young woman named Shay Zucconi who inherits a tulip farm from her beloved step-grandmother, only to find out that the inheritance comes with two conditions—she has to move back to the small town of Friendship, Rhode Island, and she has to be married within one year. But after being left at the altar by her fiancé, Shay has sworn off marriage and thus has no intention of following the terms of the will. She decides to move to her hometown only temporarily, to regroup and recover emotionally in the only home she’s ever known…until she meets her next-door neighbour and his foul-mouthed little niece. And then realises that her bossy new neighbour might not be a stranger at all but a long forgotten childhood best friend. A perfect blend of funny and heartwarming, sprinkled with some very juicy scenes, this is the kind of story you read in a single sitting, and then bemoan your own ability to read so fast. Another absolute gem from an author who never disappoints.
There is something about this story that hit a perfect chord for me, beginning to end, and it has everything to do with the way Kristen Ashley brings her characters to life—unapologetically and daringly and true to everything we’ve always known her to stand for. Furthermore, when she decides to sink her teeth into a redemption story, you know all bets are off and she’ll make you feel a whole lot of things. It’s the story of Tom Pierce, former tennis superstar, and Mika Stowe, artist extraordinaire, who first met at a time when Tom was not available to pursue anything between them. Now, years later, Tom’s actions have not only hurt those closest to him, but also knocked him off the pedestal that Mika has always put him on. So when they are forced to cross paths again, they must not only come to terms with the aftermath of Tom’s transgression, but also with two decades of personal history that they do not share. A moving tale of two people taking a second chance on life and love, and moving forward from the past, together.
In my ongoing mission to discover as many remarkable new voices in Romance as possible, I came across this glorious, sparkling gem of a book that you’ll want to push into the hands of everyone you know. Whether the idea of a celebrity falling for an everyday person is your tropetonite, or you’re just a sucker for the ‘famous life’, there is something about this story that is both wonderfully fanciful, and also completely relatable. What begins as a one-night stand between two old childhood friends—one of them a hugely successful actor, and the other an ambitious investigative journalist on the verge of a career-making scoop—quickly deepens and evolves into something more for them both. But fame and anonymity don’t go hand in hand, and soon, both their lives are thrown into precarious waters as scandal hits home. I rarely read a book cover to cover, twice in the same week, but this one I did.
What an absolutely delightful book this was! The heroine works as an executive protection agent and she’s just been hired to protect a Hollywood actor from a potentially dangerous stalker. She’s just been dumped, he’s single. So when he goes back to the family ranch to be near his sick mother but doesn’t want his family to know he needs a bodyguard, he asks the heroine to pretend to be his girlfriend. The more time they spend together, however, far away from the world and pretending to be in love, the more it all begins to feel real. The hero is a real sweetheart, protective and caring, and the perfect counterpart to a heroine who’s never known what it feels like to be truly loved. I never wanted this story to end.
