It’s Valentine’s Day, but Macy Rodgers isn’t feeling the love. Aside from a torrid, one-night fling in a backseat a few months back, her love life has been sorely lacking, but fortunately she has devious friends who feel like playing Cupid. Wouldn’t they be shocked to learn that the match they’ve made for her is the same one that steamed up the back of that ’69 GTO…

Seth “Ghost” Warren has just returned to town after an extended absence. Between his grandmother’s failing health, his job as a tattoo artist, his band’s gigs, and a crazy ex that won’t leave him alone, he’s stretched thin. Cautious cowgirl Macy is the last thing he needs thrown into the mix.

She’s all country, he’s all heavy metal – and Macy knows that if anyone can propel her out of her rut, it’s Seth. But when their worlds collide, it’s anyone guess if they’ll survive with their hearts intact.

BOOK REVIEW: Leave Me Breathless

Cherrie Lynn

Book Series:

RATING:

“As much as he liked taking her control away, her arms around him and her soft body welcoming his stole away every last bit of his own. With only a few words, a touch, she’d brought his ragged beast to heel under her own gentle command.”

DAYUM! This book will make you pant, it will make you sweat, it will give you palpitations and it will make you want to immerse your head into a bucket of ice. If you have any known medical conditions, I would definitely suggest consulting a doctor before meeting … Ghost.

In this steamy story of two people who at first glance appear all wrong for each other, we are given the delicious scenario of good-girl-meets-bad-boy and inevitably sparks fly. Macy is a former rodeo princess, a girl with a quaint façade but a passionate heart. She has lived a very mainstream type of existence, one that is planned, responsible and not overtly risky. She likes to have control over her life and giving her heart to someone who could possibly consume her entire being is not something she has ever planned on doing.

Ghost is all muscle, careless attitude, tattoos and piercings in all the right places. His tough exterior is the first thing that people notice about him and he is the kind of man that Macy has steered away from all her life. Like two oppositely charged magnets, they are drawn to each other from the first time they lay eyes on one another and the chemistry is thundering. While they both believe that it could never work out between them, they start a physical relationship so intense it devours their every thought, every breath, every daydream, but all the while never expecting it to lead anywhere but the bedroom. Or the car. Or the restaurant…

Before they know it, their bond grows and a purely carnal attraction blossoms into so much more. Soon their emotional hang-ups start showing – Macy cannot see a future with someone like Ghost. He excites her, brings out her best qualities and makes her more confident in herself, but the lack of structure and ambitions in his life make her afraid to give in to her feelings for him.

“Could she give up everything she’d ever dreamed of and believed in to be with him? To be a couple of feathers floating in the wind together with no foreseeable destination…”

Ghost is afraid to love again – his painful past relationships have tainted his outlook on love and he struggles to believe that a nice girl like Macy would ever want him enough to keep him in her life, but even more than that, he doesn’t trust himself to be and remain ‘enough’ for her.

“Truth of the matter was … that it made no difference how much you gave her, or how many rings you put on her finger; there was always a mother*cker around the corner just waiting to try to entice her with a better deal.”

Apart from the INCREDIBLE hot lovin’ scenes that will make you stir in your seat and leave nail marks on any hard surfaces around you, the playfulness of the relationship between Macy and Ghost is refreshingly entertaining. They tease and challenge each other, push one another’s boundaries, make themselves reconsider their own preconceptions about what they are looking for in life and how much they are willing to gamble to achieve it.

“When we’re together, I want to take you places you’ve never been before.”

If there is one thing that this story will leave you with, apart from your own delicious visual of Ghost that will mess with your head in the best possible way, is a shaken viewpoint on what constitutes a picture-perfect ‘meant-to-be’. It is a lesson in how much our own prejudices can steer us away from happiness and how right ‘wrongs’ can sometimes feel… ahem, be.

“How big is it?”
“Uh, don’t you know?”
“I’m talking precise measurements.”
“Why, Macy. A nice young lady like yourself, asking such a thing. I’m appalled.”
“Oh, come on. Guys always know how big they are.”
“Big enough that I should tie a bow around it and attach a little card that says ‘To: Macy. You’re welcome. Love, Seth.’”
