Rosie Danan proves once again to have a real knack for crafting intriguing storylines with deeply complex characters that feel both wonderous and real, and in her latest novel, she pairs a tenacious expert in the occult with a wary archaeologist in need of professional redemption. Add a cursed Scottish castle to the mix, an ancient magic with its own cryptic agenda, and the result is downright spellbinding. I loved this book before I even read it, but I never expected it to become one of my favourite reads of the year.

Kristen Ashley returns with the fantastically atmospheric tale of American heiress Daphne Ryan who finds herself summoned to Duncroft House—her younger sister’s new boyfriend’s ancestral family home—to meet his parents and brother. However, as Daphne soon realises, Duncroft House appears to be haunted by all the women who died there under mysterious circumstances, and they all seem to be currently targeting Daphne. Enter Ian Alcott, the very alpha, very bossy heir to the earldom, who steps in to protect Daphne, while also doing his best to solve the mystery of Duncroft House. Ashley masterfully weaves in elements of the supernatural to draw a gripping tale of love, suspense, and things that go bump in the night. I read this book in a single sitting.

I have been devouring Cherise Sinclair romances for over a decade now, and the Mountain Masters series was one of my first forays into her writing, so returning to this world felt like coming home. Newly divorced Erin Lockwood has been left penniless by her criminal ex-husband who, after emptying all their bank accounts, fled the country to escape arrest. In a desperate attempt to restart her life away from the bad memories that continue to haunt her, she retreats to the small mountain town of Bear Flat and the house gifted to her by her late mother, only to realise that the legacy of her husband’s crimes still reverberates through the lives of everyone in town. The last thing Erin needs right now is to get involved with anyone, but when she meets wilderness guide Wyatt Masterson, she can’t help but feel noticed, valued, protected—all the things her ex-husband never made her feel. But as Erin and Wyatt begin to explore each other, in and out of the bedroom, Erin’s past continues to draw closer and closer, threatening to destroy the happiness she has finally found with Wyatt. With the perfect mix of suspense, romance and kink, Cherise Sinclair’s stories continue to be comfort reads for me.

A new Kate Canterbary novel automatically goes on top of my reading pile, no matter what, and I absolutely loved returning to her quirky town of Friendship, Rhode Island. As the eldest son of two well-intentioned but absent-minded parents, Beckett Loew knows a thing or two about how to deal with other people’s problems quickly and efficiently. So, when his parents find themselves embroiled in an embezzlement scam, he returns to their small town to help save the family’s oyster bar, as well as take care of his teenage brother. But things get even more complicated when he realises that the owner of the new café next door to the oyster bar is none other than Sunny duJardin, his best friend’s little sister. And she seems to hate him on sight. They’re complete opposite in every possible way—he’s broody and grumpy, she’s cheery and light—yet the more they bicker, the more they can’t keep their hands off each other. But what happens once all the little fires are out and Beckett has to go back to his old life? I walked away from this book smiling ear to ear.

NEW RELEASES

✭ NBJ TOP RECOMMENDATION | HISTORICAL ROMANCE

Bookish suffragist Catriona Campbell is busy: An ailing estate, academic writer’s block, a tense time for England’s women’s rights campaign—the last thing she needs is to be stuck playing host to her father’s distractingly attractive young colleague.

Deeply introverted Catriona lives for her work at Oxford and her fight for women’s suffrage. She dreams of romance, too, but since all her attempts at love have ended badly, she now keeps her desires firmly locked inside her head—until she climbs out of a Scottish loch after a good swim and finds herself rather exposed to her new colleague.

Elias Khoury has wheedled his way into Professor Campbell’s circle under false pretenses: he did not come to Oxford to classify ancient artefacts, he is determined to take them back to his homeland in the Middle East. Winning Catriona’s favor could be the key to his success. Unfortunately, seducing the coolly intense lady scholar quickly becomes a mission in itself and his well-laid plans are in danger of derailing…

Forced into close proximity in Oxford’s hallowed halls, two very different people have to face the fact that they might just be a perfect match. Soon, a risky new game begins that asks Catriona one more time to put her heart and wildest dreams at stake.

This is the fourth and final book in the A League of Extraordinary Women series of standalone novels with interconnected characters.

He’s a disgraced actor. She’s the daughter of Hollywood royalty. Both are hiding in the Scottish Highlands, but despite their antagonistic attraction, they can’t seem to hide from each other…

North Hunter has worked hard to step out of the shadows of his orphaned upbringing into the limelight of Hollywood. He never imagined a dark moment from his childhood returning to destroy everything he’d built. Devastated, he finds comfort in the isolation of an exclusive members-only club in the Scottish Highlands, even if the club comes with a prickly estate manager who sets his blood on fire.

As the eldest daughter of a Hollywood legend, Aria Howard has learned the hard way that people will use her to get to her father. When her last relationship ended badly, Aria fled to Scotland. Running Ardnoch Estate provides distance from a life that has never fit comfortably. But when defamed Scottish actor North Hunter disrupts her sanctuary, Aria is on the defense. The cocky actor is the last thing she needs, and despite their searing attraction, Aria is determined to dislike him.

But one night of drunken forced proximity with North leads Aria to share insecurities seeded by her horrible ex. When North offers to prove her ex wrong by taking Aria to his bed for a no-strings distraction, they begin an affair neither expected. ✭ NBJ TOP RECOMMENDATION | MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE + GRUMPY/SUNSHINE + SPORTS ROMANCE

On a normal day, Emmaline Darling isn’t a car thief. She’s just a simple girl who runs a bookstore and adores cats. But when she’s stranded in the desert and needs to get away from her dangerous ex-boyfriend, she picks her only option: swiping the keys to a famous football player’s Lamborghini and speeding away.

Football star Graham Harlan is in chaos. First he took a hit on the field that left him with a near-death experience, and now he’s promised his brother he’ll get married to secure the family inheritance. Trouble is he isn’t even seeing anyone.

Then a mystery woman steals his car. With his usual stubbornness, he tracks her all the way to Manhattan and gives her an ultimatum: marry me or I’ll press charges.

Her choice is obvious, only neither of them expect the sparks that ignite between them.

As the end of their arrangement looms, will Graham take a chance on love or let his darling walk away forever?

This is a standalone novel, set in the same world as Beauty and the Baller, Princess and the Player, and The Revenge Pact.

HOCKEY ROMANCE

I accidentally grabbed the wrong drink at the coffee shop. On the upside, the hot guy it belonged to chased me down to kindly swap with me. On the down side, the reason I grabbed the wrong drink in the first place is because the hot guy had just caught me checking out his ass…sets.

In my defense, his rear view is rather magnificent.

In true, humiliating form, I word-vomited a bunch of horrible nonsense. Including an unnecessary explanation of the trauma I’d evaded thanks to his chasing me down. Nothing could ruin my lactose-intolerant day faster than my one true nemesis: dairy.

I did not expect him to ask me out on a date after that.

I also didn’t expect the date to go well since my tendency to truth-vomit is high, and not everyone finds that quality endearing.

But apparently he does. Because he asks me out again.
And again.

Sidney Butterson (yes, it’s a weird last name) ticks all my boxes.
He’s smart, he’s funny, he’s employed and he’s ridiculously hot.
There’s one catch.

We’re both single parents. With teens.

And if our kids don’t like each other?
Well, we’re doomed.

This is a standalone novella in the Pucked series—the untold story of Skye and Sidney, and the origin story where Vi (Pucked; Forever Pucked) and Miller (Pucked Up) are teens when their parents start dating and fall in love.

Series recommended reading order: Where It Begins (origin story) | Pucked | Pucked Up | Pucked Over | Forever Pucked | Pucked Under | Pucked Off | Pucked Love

BROTHER’S BEST FRIEND + ONE BED + SMALL TOWN + HOLIDAY ROMANCE

Tis the season for a hopeless crush on my older brother’s best friend…

This year will be different. I’m all grown up, my gaming channel is a huge success, and I finally have the confidence to make my move on Atlas Orion, the hottest chief in the navy.

However, I don’t intend for my smooth move to be covering Atlas in cranberry sauce. Not at all how I want to reintroduce myself to my new roomie and coworker. Atlas is in town to help save Seasons, my family’s historic holiday gift shop and event space. Seasons is booked solid with catered parties, so we need to avoid any more disasters.

Like my malfunctioning air mattress. We’re down to one bed, two dudes, and a whole lot of holiday-fling temptation. Atlas has never been with a guy, but I don’t have to do much persuading. And what better way to explore than a secret romp? No strings, and no one has to know.

The problem? With every passing week, I fall harder for Atlas, who’s far more than his drool-worthy muscles and heroic job. He’s kind, funny, makes me breakfast in bed, and each midnight snowball fight brings us that much closer to heartbreak.

Atlas can’t stay in Kringle’s Crossing forever, and I can’t imagine leaving the only place I’ve called home. Our feelings run deep, but is it a holiday illusion? Can we find our way to a lasting future?

SECOND CHANCES + FAKE DATING

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride—and that’s the way I like it.

I may be anti-marriage, but I’m still pro-romance. Case in point? That sexy curmudgeon I met last year during my cousin’s tropical bachelorette getaway.

That grump was Dorian, the groom’s old college roommate, there for the bachelor party. I couldn’t get enough of his messy brown hair and gorgeous turquoise eyes. We connected on a deep level—emotionally and physically.

But the timing wasn’t right. So we made a pact to reconnect in two years. Now I’m starting a new “job.” It’ll take a lot of work and pays really well—I’m talking seven figures here. All I have to do is pretend to be my boss’s new fiancée…and spend eight weeks with his family on their private island. How hard could it be?

Turns out, a lot harder than I thought. Because the man I’m pretending to love? He’s Dorian’s brother, and now all bets are off…

Ours was sexy. Chaotic. Not normal.

Less than 10 minutes after we met, I realized we could never be. She was forbidden to me.

She held my hand behind his back.
I gripped hers, knowing it was wrong.

I was on the cusp of superstardom—and still I held her fingertips because it felt right.
Knowing that when it all went wrong, we would be done—the media would destroy us.
After all, not only was she was four years older than me, she was the leader of SWT’s sister—my best friend—and someone who could wreck everything we’d worked for.

But I still held on.

I’m lost. So lost.
I’m the youngest in the group, the one everyone sees as the most innocent.
But they don’t know the stolen moments with her.
The kisses.
The touching.
They don’t know any of that.

So I keep acting as if I’m pure as the driven snow when really all it took was one chance meeting.
To make.
Me.
Sin.

Hi, I’m Sookie, Maknae of SWT, the most famous K-pop group in the world.
And I’m pretty sure I’m not just lost… nah, I’m about to fall.
