The Sunshine Vicram trilogy was one of those on-a-whim picks, a blind draw from my endless TBR list, and my first encounter with Darynda Jones’ s delightful writing, and I simply flew through it. Set in the small town of Del Sol, New Mexico, the series centres around Sunshine Vicram who returns to her hometown as the elected sheriff, only to find herself knee-deep in drama and danger on her first day on the job. And then there’s Levi, her childhood crush and the man who seems to be angry at her for some reason; her teenage daughter who fancies herself an amateur sleuth; her meddling parents… Witty dialogues, endearing (and some downright bonkers) characters, and small town shenanigans made this series a hilarious thrill ride I never want to get off, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Going back to Misted Pines—as murder and mystery ridden as this sleepy little town seems to be—never fails to get me all giddy, but I never expected this story to make me cry so hard. Two bodies are found buried in an unmarked grave in Idaho, leading the authorities to a nearly two-decade-old robbery case in Misted Pines. Lillian Rainier has spent the past sixteen years not knowing what happened to her beloved parents, but fearing the worst. So, when she suddenly finds Sheriff Harry Moran at her door one day, she immediately knows why he is there. But their encounter also triggers something in them both that slowly begins to bring them both to life. Unfortunately, the past is not done with either of them yet, and the more Harry investigates the unsolved case of Lillian’s parents’ death, the more dangerous it becomes for them both. A story of loss, healing, courage, and the immeasurable power of love, everything about this story moved me. I cried, I swooned, I cried some more, and then I wanted to relive it all over and over again.

I honesty can’t say that I had blood-drinking, winged aliens on my reading bingo card this year, yet here we are. A tale of fated mates, unrequited love, with even a surprise pregnancy thrown into the mix, I devoured this book in a single sitting, hopelessly enthralled with the characters, the plot, the angst, the phenomenal world building. This is one of those stories that consumes you until you’ve gobbled up every last word of it, and then leaves you craving for more. It’s technically the third book in the Brides of the Kylorr series, but I jumped in with no prior knowledge of the series so far, and that didn’t impede my enjoyment of this book. This was my first toe-dip into Zoey Draven’s writing, but it then kicked off a week-long binge-read-a-thon of her books I’m still recovering from.

The more I read, the harder I am to impress, and it takes an outstanding book these days to truly shake me into submission. Admittedly, a kinky, sports-flavoured romance penned by one of my favourite writers of late is not a far-fetched bet, yet I never expected to become so infatuated and utterly consumed by this story to the point of re-reading it over and over again in a matter of weeks. Ali Hazelwood continues to bring complex, STEMinist heroines to life with unmatched precision and attention to detail, celebrating their resilience and drive to succeed as well as their softer, more vulnerable parts. And this time around, she does it by deep-diving into the gruelling world of competitive water sports, with the story of two college athletes with something very unexpected in common.

PLAYBOY + CLOSE PROXIMITY + BUSINESS RIVALS + FORBIDDEN

I may not know much, but I am an expert in two things:
Heartbreak.
And hedonism.
I’ve been chasing escape from one bed to the next, finding distraction in all the wrong places.
Like with my roommate’s sister.
And my billionaire boss’s lover.

You could say I’m lucky in lust but very unlucky in the other L-word.
By the time I arrive in Mermaid Beach, Florida, I’ve decided I’m done with flings. I’m over chasing women I can’t have.
Until I meet Sloane Parker, the woman who has made it her mission to ruin the new Wolf Hotel.
A hotel I’m supposed to help manage, by the way. Yeah. Me, Ronan Lyle, Director of Facilities.
Don’t you dare laugh.

I don’t need another forbidden woman in my life, especially one who could derail my future.
But what I want? That’s a totally different story.

This is the first book in the all-new Wolf Hotel Mermaid Beach series, a spin-off from the Wolf Hotel series.

He was never supposed to love her—especially not her baby.

Pretending we were married was for my protection.
A temporary arrangement meant to keep me hidden from my vicious husband.
We agree to keep it strictly business. No feelings. No future.

But the longer I stay, the more this small town—and this man—start to feel like home.

MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE + FRIENDS TO LOVERS + HUSBANDS WITH BENEFITS

Donovan

What’s a little marriage of convenience between best friends?

I’ve always worked hard to keep the friendship line firmly in place when it comes to Eric. I’m gay, and he’s straight. We’re best friends and nothing more. But he’s my person, and there’s nothing I wouldn’t do for him. Which is why when I find out he’s struggling financially and doesn’t have medical insurance, I blurt out six friendship-altering words: I want you to marry me.

Eric

Donovan’s my best friend, the most important person in my life… And he wants to marry me.

Okay, so maybe I haven’t made the best decisions lately. I took a job with no health insurance and no guaranteed money, which was working out fine, if not for the whole getting-injured-and-fired thing. But Donovan has come up with a solution. Marriage. Living together. There’s a small chance we’re a tad codependent, but I always want to be with him, so signing a marriage license shouldn’t really change much. Until the kissing starts…and the touching…and the exploring… And all I know is, I want more. So much more from my husband.

Playing pretend with Donovan is the realest thing I’ve ever felt, and though divorce was the ultimate plan, I’m not sure I want this to end.

This is a standalone novel in The Jilted Exes’ Club series.

FRIENDS TO LOVERS + SECOND CHANCES + FORCED PROXIMITY

A band reunion may be enough to change two musicians’ tune on love…

Micah’s relationship to music is complicated. As teenagers, her band took off after being featured on a popular TV show, but the group barely released their sophomore album before breaking up. Now, over a decade later, the band is reuniting for one more performance on a themed cruise, and Micah is determined to learn from her past mistakes — no losing herself in the music, and no losing her heart along the way.

John misses playing in a band, and mostly he misses Micah, who’d been his best friend until the music stopped. Back then, he didn’t take the lead, either in his guitar parts or while he sat back and watched her date another bandmate. John’s never been one to rock the boat, but he’s faced with another chance now that this cruise has brought music — and Micah — back in his life.

Onboard, Micah can’t help but see John with brand new eyes, and John’s feelings only intensify as the discordant band’s tension grows to a breaking point. With five days at sea, there’s a ticking clock on anything that might develop between them, and they’ll have to decide if their relationship is destined to be more than a one-hit wonder.

This is a standalone novel, set in the same world as With Love, from Cold World.

HISTORICAL ROMANCE + ENEMIES TO LOVERS

When an aspiring archaeologist teams up with her childhood enemy for a treasure hunt, they find it impossible to bury their growing feelings…

Elfreda Marsden has finally made a major discovery—an ancient amulet proving the Viking army camped on her family’s estate. Too bad her nemesis is back from London, freshly exiled after a scandal and ready to wreak havoc on her life. Georgie Redmayne is everything Elfreda isn’t–charming, popular, carefree, distractingly attractive, and bored to death by the countryside. When the two collide (literally), the amulet is lost, and with it, Elfreda’s big chance to lead a proper excavation. Now Elfreda needs new evidence of medieval activity, and Georgie needs money to escape the doldrums of Derbyshire. Joining forces to locate a hidden hoard of Viking gold is the best chance for them both.

Marsdens and Redmaynes don’t get along, and that’s the least of the reasons these enemies can’t dream of something more. But as the quest takes them on unexpected adventures, sparks of attraction ignite a feeling increasingly difficult to identify as hatred. It’s far too risky to explore. And far too tempting to resist. Elfreda and Georgie soon find that the real treasure comes with a steep price… and the promise of a happiness beyond all measure.

This is a standalone novel.
