I’ve never come across a Sarah MacLean novel that I didn’t absolutely devour, but this book—this fascinating, almost theatrically dramatic gem of a story—stole my heart. A wealthy New England family is shaken by the sudden loss of its larger-than-life patriarch, but no one more so than its prodigal daughter—Alice Storm. After five years of being cast out from the family and forging her own path in life, Alice returns to her family’s private island to pay her final respects to her father. But shortly after arriving there, she realises that her eccentric, controlling father is not done manipulating Alice and her siblings even from beyond the grave, forcing them all to spend one week together on the island in order to receive the inheritance. By exploring the real, messy, and deeply broken dynamics of a family brought together by guilt and grief, but ultimately bound to one another by love, MacLean delivers a powerful story riddled with drama, secrets, and family mayhem, as well as a generous dash of heartwarming romance. A superb read.

Kristen Ashley continues to infuse her stories with such depth of emotion that I can see myself re-reading her novels until I’m old and gray. The latest River Rain instalment is a richly layered tale of second chances in life, of redemption, of forgiveness, of knowing our self-worth and believing in the best version of ourselves, no matter how hard our demons fight to break us down. A former celebrity mean girl, Blake Sharp is trying hard to move on from her past and from under the thumb of her controlling mother, but she never expected to find an ally in her childhood frenemy and occasional bully, retired Scottish rugby player and playboy, Alasdair Wallace. When fate suddenly throws them together, an unexpected connection emerges between them, followed by immediate attraction and chemistry, but learning to trust each other with their hearts and not letting their pasts stand in the way is a battle they will both have to fight for what they want the most. A joy to read!

The Sunshine Vicram trilogy was one of those on-a-whim picks, a blind draw from my endless TBR list, and my first encounter with Darynda Jones’ s delightful writing, and I simply flew through it. Set in the small town of Del Sol, New Mexico, the series centres around Sunshine Vicram who returns to her hometown as the elected sheriff, only to find herself knee-deep in drama and danger on her first day on the job. And then there’s Levi, her childhood crush and the man who seems to be angry at her for some reason; her teenage daughter who fancies herself an amateur sleuth; her meddling parents… Witty dialogues, endearing (and some downright bonkers) characters, and small town shenanigans made this series a hilarious thrill ride I never want to get off, and I can’t recommend it highly enough.

I honesty can’t say that I had blood-drinking, winged aliens on my reading bingo card this year, yet here we are. A tale of fated mates, unrequited love, with even a surprise pregnancy thrown into the mix, I devoured this book in a single sitting, hopelessly enthralled with the characters, the plot, the angst, the phenomenal world building. This is one of those stories that consumes you until you’ve gobbled up every last word of it, and then leaves you craving for more. It’s technically the third book in the Brides of the Kylorr series, but I jumped in with no prior knowledge of the series so far, and that didn’t impede my enjoyment of this book. This was my first toe-dip into Zoey Draven’s writing, but it then kicked off a week-long binge-read-a-thon of her books I’m still recovering from.

GRUMPY/GRUMPY + SECOND CHANCES + SMALL TOWN

When a mistaken obituary reunites two old crushes, sparks fly and a second chance at love ignites. But will the one that got away finally stay?

Karl and Molly were never together. There was a time, right after high school, where it seemed like they might finally cross the line from friends to lovers…but instead, a foolish misunderstanding meant they never spoke again. Molly went to LA and got married. Karl stayed in Harlot’s Bay and bought a bakery.

The only connection the pair has shared over the years is painfully one-sided: Now divorced, Molly narrates monster romance audiobooks, and Karl is an ever-diligent listener, clinging to his only piece of the one that got away.

Still, Molly hasn’t totally left Harlot’s Bay behind. When she hears that Karl’s obituary has run in the local paper, unexpected grief prompts her to hop on the next flight to Maryland…where she finds Karl very much alive, the victim of nothing but an accidental obituary.

As the pair reunite, they finally hash out their missed connection. True, Molly isn’t quite ready to trust again, but Karl is determined to prove himself worthy of her faith and devotion. And as her remaining time in Harlot’s Bay ticks down, Molly, the habitual cynic, just might find that Karl, the cranky town curmudgeon, is impossible to leave behind a second time.

This is a standalone novel in the Harlot’s Bay series.

FRIENDS TO LOVERS + THROUPLE + MOTORCYCLE CLUB ROMANCE

Romania Monroe has always dreamed of finding the kind of love that can weather anything—the kind she’s seen her whole life in her dad’s motorcycle club.

But being “one of the guys” makes it hard to imagine love coming her way. She’d rather throw punches, ride her bike, or fix engines in the Hawks’ mechanic shop than worry about being pretty. So when she’s kidnapped for her looks, she’s kind of nonplussed.

Her captors don’t realise they’ve taken more than they can handle—or that her family and their new allies, the Diamond MC in America, will stop at nothing to protect her.

And in the middle of it all, Romania just might discover the love she’s been waiting for.

This is the fifth book in the Hawks MC: Next Generation series of standalone novels with interconnected characters.

MARRIAGE OF CONVENIENCE + HISTORICAL ROMANCE

The Academy always comes first . . . which makes marriage to its most formidable adversary an exceedingly inconvenient arrangement.

Well removed from London’s more curious eyes, the Benevolent Academy for the Betterment of Young Ladies strives toward one clandestine goal: to distract, disrupt, and discredit men in power who would seek to harm the advancement of women—by appropriate means, of course.

When intrepid newspaper editor Miles Quincey starts to question the school’s intentions, the Academy appoints Penelope “Nell” Trewlove, one of their brightest graduates, to put this nuisance to rest. An easy enough mission, she supposes. Or it would be, if Miles wasn’t so fascinating—too fascinating to resist—and if Nell’s visit to London didn’t perfectly coincide with the murder of one of Miles’s reporters.

When the inexorable claws of fate trap Nell and Miles in a compromising situation, they agree to an arrangement that will save their reputations while enabling them to investigate the story that led to a man’s death, as well as the surprising chemistry between them . . .

This is a standalone novel in The Crinoline Academy series.

SECOND CHANCES

When school sweethearts reunite in an unexpectedly bumpy quest for the smoothest spirit, they’ll prove that nothing pairs better with tacos than tequila.

San Diego-based model and influencer Jaime Montez isn’t the heir—or even the spare—to his family’s Taco King fast-food empire. So after he’s asked to be the face of yet another non-Hispanic, celebrity-owned tequila company, Jaime decides to reinvent his role in the family dynasty: he’s going to start his own liquor brand. The problem? He’s an agave amateur. He needs help if he expects to ever master mezcal. And he has the perfect teacher in mind . . .

Alma Garcia is the toast of Tiburon. Having passed the grueling examen de Consejo Regulador del Tequila in Mexico, Alma used her extensive knowledge as a certified catadora to open the hottest mezcal bar in Marin County. When her college flame returns with a tempting proposition—he’ll promote her business in the local Cinco de Mayo Street Festival if she’ll bring him into the world of tequila—it’s as if the holiday spirits are bringing Jaime and Alma back together.

She has plenty to teach him about tequila—from harvesting the agave to taking a proper sip, and even introduces him to farmers who grow and bottle their own local mezcals. Their chemistry is intoxicating, but Jaime’s ulterior motives for reconnecting bring the threat of another serious love hangover, leaving them both to wonder if this second chance at romance is worth the shot . . .

This is a standalone novel in the Love & Tacos series.

PARANORMAL ROMANCE

A swooning photographer and a double-crossing superhero come together with electrifying chemistry…

From the moment forty-eight alien superheroes crash-landed on Earth, photographer Monika Neumann had a favorite. She’s been crushing on the literally electrifying Taranis ever since she saw the cutie crawling out of his pod. Unfortunately, his popularity isn’t exactly crackling these days. He could use an image boost.

Monika is in. One right photo op and she’ll put her ridiculously hot lightning-bolt-wielding hero back in the public’s favor. The best part is, the mission will bring her closer to Taranis. She’s already looking forward to the sparks. Monika never imagined there’d be a worst part: an accidental recording that reveals Taranis could be more villain than hero. In fact, her pretty golden boy can get kind of ugly.

Going all 007 and spying on Taranis isn’t the adventure in romance and derring-do she expected. Can she trust him? Doubtful. Can she resist him? No way. Is she ready to risk everything on a shimmering Champion with the power to zap her heart in two? Well, yeah.

This is a standalone novel in the Supers in the City series.

ROMANTIC COMEDY

A virgin phone sex operator. A detective. And a murder. Love shows up at the oddest times.

Down and almost out in Nashville, Hannah May takes a job at what she thinks is a telemarketing company. To her shock, it’s a phone sex hotline. Unfortunately, the only role-playing Hannah can do with conviction is as a cash-strapped twenty-five-year-old virgin caring for a mother with Alzheimer’s. If only her callers were into that fantasy. Instead, one of them is looking for a killer.

Detective Dominic Dunn is investigating the murder of another hotline operator when Hannah’s endearing awkwardness, quirky charm, and fierce devotion to her mother crack his professional facade. Despite the circumstances, their connection is instant and electric. For the first time in years, Hannah finds herself living instead of just surviving—even if that means playing amateur sleuth between awkward attempts at phone seduction.

But as their relationship deepens and the investigation intensifies, Dominic’s protective instincts go into overdrive. With every call Hannah takes, she gets closer to both love and danger.

Because somewhere in Nashville, on the other end of her line, a killer is waiting.

This is a standalone novel in the all-new The Protectors series.

DARK ROMANTIC FANTASY

Don’t listen to the whispers of the woods.
Don’t trust the man cloaked in shadow.
Don’t earn the wrath of the scattered spirits.
Don’t go out after dark.

The Great Hunt begins once every fifty years and only the Champions willing to face death to shatter the curse dare to enter.

The Champions…and me.

I’m no warrior, no swordsmith, and certainly no Fae, but the forest is my only hope. To enter those trees is to walk willingly to my demise. But I need the boon the forest will grant the winner and I’m willing to risk it all for a chance at claiming it.

I just never expected to face him beneath those trees. The beast who strikes fear into the desperate people of all lands. The monster who commands the legion of Hollows and makes our plight a thousand times worse.

The Hollows are empty of all things but none are so heartless as him.

Prince Bane intends to be the death of me. But I have an oath to fulfil before I’ll let him have me. And I’ll do whatever it takes to achieve it.

I am Ferris Creed and I’m going to unite the lost spirits who once bound the wandering trees in place, return the scattered amulets to the core of its corruption, and use the winner’s boon to change my fate. Come wretchedness or torment, through trickery and deception, I will get what I came here for. And no one will stand in my way. Not even Prince Bane.

This is the first book in the all-new Crown of Hearts and Chaos series.

FAKE DATING + HE FALLS FIRST + FORCED PROXIMITY + HOCKEY + HOLIDAY ROMANCE

Fake dating a hockey player for Christmas wasn’t on my bingo card.

Clare Johnson’s job is handling PR for the Dallas Stampede—not getting tangled up with one of the players. But when Mitchell Drake—charming forward, fan favorite, and very off-limits—asks her to pose as his girlfriend for one week in small-town Minnesota, she reluctantly agrees. What’s the worst that could happen?

Mitchell’s had six months to get over his very public broken engagement, and his family is done waiting. The last thing he needs is pitying smiles and whispered gossip. Clare is smart, sharp, and strong enough to hold her own with both fans and family—the perfect fake girlfriend.

But holiday lights and snowy nights have a way of blurring the line between pretend and real. Clare fits too easily into his world—bonding with his grandma, winning at pond hockey, and looking unfairly good in his flannel. The more time they spend together, the less fake it feels.

Full of small-town holiday magic, meddling relatives, and sizzling chemistry, Checking It Twice is a hockey romance about second chances and falling in love when you least expect it. Perfect for fans of fake dating, one-bed tension, forced proximity, and happily-ever-afters wrapped in Christmas lights.

Because sometimes the best gifts aren’t under the tree—they’re standing right in front of you.

This is a standalone novel in the Must Love Hockey series.
