An orphaned, small-town, southern girl, held hostage by responsibility and self-doubt.

A Hollywood A-list mega-star, on the run from his latest scandal and with everything to lose.

A chance encounter that leads to an unlikely arrangement and epic love affair that will change them both forever.

When his co-star and real-life girlfriend is caught cheating on him with her married and much older director, A-list hottie, Jack Eversea, finds himself in sleepy Butler Cove, South Carolina. Jack hopes the sultry southern heat in this tiny coastal Lowcountry town will hide him not only from the tabloids and his cheating girlfriend, but his increasingly vapid life and the people who run it. He doesn’t count on meeting Keri Ann Butler.

Keri Ann has relied on herself so long, dealing with her family’s death and the responsibilities of keeping up her family’s historic mansion, that boys and certainly the meager offering of eligible boys in Butler Cove, have never figured into her equation. But fate has other plans. Suddenly face to face with the man who played the movie role of her favorite fictional character, Jack has Keri Ann yearning for everything she has previously avoided … and Jack must decide whether this funny, sassy girl is worth changing his life for, before his mistakes catch up to him.

BOOK REVIEW: Eversea

RATING:

“He was like a bright and beautiful rogue planet. He pulled the entire galaxy into a gravitational wobble until he got close enough to suck you in and tilt your axis head over heels.”

What do you say about a book that not only completely transports you into another reality and owns you body and soul with its story, characters, writing style, but also fills you to the brim with such overwhelming joy simply because you can’t get enough of every single word in it? Deliciously captivating, breathtakingly romantic, sexy and sweet all at the same time, this beautiful story became one of My Favourite Books before I even reached the half way mark. I call books like these the very reason I read.

“I was just minding my own business and someone lobbed a grenade into my life— in the form of Jack Eversea.”

Keri Ann is a young woman from a small coastal town in South Carolina, a wholesome girl next door with a simple job, good friends, and a predictable everyday life. Apart from one brother, she has no living relatives left, that reality alone being a determining factor in the way she takes risks with her own heart. When Jack Eversea, a world famous movie star, suddenly walks into her life, Keri Ann is starstruck and very much affected by his presence, but her outspoken and defiant personality prevent her from turning into just another fangirl around him. She never gives into his charm or good looks, treating Jack the way no one has ever treated him before – like a person, not a celebrity. As they make a practical arrangement that benefits them both, they start spending more and more time together, getting to know one another and having to fight their mutual attraction each day a little bit harder.

“Had I been singled out? Did the Devil look up and see one sensible girl left and decide on tactical warfare to bring me into line?”

Jack is a man perceived and defined by his public persona. When he escapes the pressures of the latest scandal in his life, the last thing he expects to find is someone as grounded and normal as Keri Ann. He is drawn to her physically, but he finds her unpredictable personality and inherent goodness even more irresistible. For the first time in his life, someone sees and likes him for the person that he is rather than his high profile job, challenging him, lowering his defences and slowly exposing the man behind the celebrity. While most women fall at his feet with little effort on his side, this little firecracker fights his advances and keeps him at an arm’s length, her innocence drawing him to her as much as making him afraid of ruining her.

“It’s amazing… that you seem to have no idea how f*cking beautiful you are.”

As feelings develop, lines get crossed, and resolves fail, Jack and Keri Ann get a glimpse of what happiness in each other’s arms would feel like and they are changed forever. But finding the love of your life does not always guarantee a happy ending, sometimes life is cruel and it dangles happiness above your head, fooling you into believing that it could be yours but never planning on letting you keep it. When the reality of Jack’s life bursts the little bubble they’ve created, they are both led by their own demons to make decisions that could cost them everything.

“How could the perfect man come along and tell you he was feeling all the same feelings you were, but you couldn’t keep him?”

This is not just another story about a famous movie star hopelessly falling for an ordinary girl next door. While it might follow a winning formula, it truly takes it to a whole new alluring level by giving us characters that make us feel so much, who are so well rounded and real that there were scenes where my heart was clenching at every sentence, every emotion expressed, every reason behind their words or feelings. I am not an easy reader to captivate, I need a book to be the full package and all my triggers to be overwhelmed for it to enthral me so completely. And I was in full sensory overload with this book! This is the perfect fairy tale, the perfect little dream to feed our romance addictions. This is, in essence, a story of two people from two very different walks of life being perfect for each other, fate bringing them together, but their pasts pulling them apart. Simple and yet irresistible when the writing style is this flawless.

Now, I will admit there is a bit of a cliffhanger kind of ending, Forever, Jack being the second book in the series and the conclusion to Keri Ann and Jack’s epic love story. However, I believe this anticipation to be essential to this particular story, the relatively short time between instalments being needed to fully absorb the myriad of emotions we are left with at the end of the first book. Thankfully, Forever, Jack is expected to be released in a few weeks. If you’re looking for a feel-good story to take your breath away and make your heart sing from glee, look no further.

“God,” he said, between breaths. “If that’s what you kiss like with no experience …”
