The enemies-turned-lovers trope has always been a personal favourite of mine, the intoxicating combination of hostility and intense sexual tension between the characters being a heady cocktail I’ve never been able to resist, and Santino Hassell’s latest offering is a sexy supernova that leaves the reader bursting from all the feels. The tale of two rival football players suspended from the game they love and forced to ‘play nice’ while battling their feelings for one another, this book owned me cover to cover, and on more than one occasion, it left me utterly breathless.
At this point, to say that I’m completely obsessed with this series would be a hysterical understatement. After falling in love with The Highwayman, I simply could not wait to read Christopher Argent’s story, and unsurprisingly, I was enthralled from the very first page. The story of a ruthless assassin who falls for the woman he was paid to kill in cold blood, this is the kind of book that makes you want to shut out the world around you and escape into it with no interruptions.
I might never be able to fully express how much I adored this book, but if you’re in the mood for a superbly written historical romance brimming with emotion, angst, sexual tension, with an enigmatic, tortured hero, a kind, strong-willed heroine, and a touching tale of second chances at the core of it, then look no further.
A heartfelt, delightful tale of new beginnings and the healing power of love, sprinkled with just the right balance of heart-prickling angst and suspense, and beautifully told, as always—the story of Eliza ‘Izzy’ Forrester and Johnny Gamble filled my heart to the brim with emotion and awe, and I only wish I would have savoured it for much much longer.
Nikki Sloane’s first toe-dip into the New Adult genre might be a considerable departure from her much racier novels, but as always, she delivers a story that is impossible to put down and an absolute joy to read. Sexy, witty, engaging, this book was my undoing from the very first page, and just thinking about it makes me want to re-read it all over again.
