I’m forever on the lookout for emotionally satisfying stories with strong heroines over forty who are embarking on a ‘second act’ in their lives, and as my own years begin to add up, I find myself gravitating more and more towards not only characters with some miles on them, but also towards stories that make us believe it’s never too late to find true love in life. On one hand, this is a third-chance romance between two college best friends who, after losing touch for more than twenty years, run into one another and have a single night of passion that ends badly in the morning. When they see each other again some years later, their new working relationship forces them to face their past and to deal with feelings that neither of them have ever truly gotten over. But on the other hand, this is also a searingly personal tale of a woman navigating her way through middlescence, of finding herself after a lifetime of self-doubt, and of letting her natural sparkle shine even brighter. I fell in love with every word, every sentence, every page of this exceptional Gen-X romance.

The marriage might be fake, but the chemistry is off the charts in this thoroughly satisfying small town romance, second in Devney Perry’s (writing as Willa Nash) Calamity Montana series. There’s much about the inevitable undoing of a marriage of convenience arrangement that makes me so ridiculously giddy—the slow burn, the sexual tension, the angst—but Perry is the kind of author who not only knows how to weave a story that’s got the perfect balance of escapism and complexity, but who also continues to deliver characters that are unique, interesting, and easy to love. And Hux and Everly stole my heart from the get-go.

I’ve had a love affair with Kristen Ashley’s books from the first moment I came across her inimitable style of storytelling, and to me, there is no one who writes Motorcycle Club Romances quite like her. But the problem with loving something so much and for so long is that one’s expectations only continue to rise higher and higher, and while I could read some of her books repeatedly and never grow tired of them, I know that the bar has been set sky high. That is why I dove into her latest offering of biker-y goodness with both anticipation and trepidation, fearing that nothing could ever replicate the badass biker vibe of Motorcycle Man, or the enduring romance of Own the Wind, or the sheer raw emotion of Walk Through Fire—and she’s already given us all of those. But that is exactly what she delivers once again. Bursting with the author’s trademark energy and imagery, Still Standing is a celebration of one woman’s indomitable spirit and resilience, of family, loyalty, friendship, and of love conquering all, and it’s the kind of story that reminds us that the human spirit can flourish and triumph even in the face of the darkest adversity. Kristen Ashley’s intimate understanding of her characters is on full display in this story, and it hits every note of emotion.

Class and privilege of the Victorian Era are joined together in transactional matrimony with the excess and opulence of the American Gilded Age in Harper St. George’s exquisite new tale of a marriage of convenience that becomes something more. Inspired by the late nineteenth-century real-life sagas of wealthy American heiresses marrying title-rich but cash-poor British noblemen, this is the story of just such a “dollar princess”, whose parents, in hopes of elevating their own social fortune, offer their daughter’s hand in marriage to an impoverished duke. But shackling herself to a man in marriage is the last thing on this heiress’ mind, and no grand title would ever be worth the loss of her independence, even if her intended could very well be the only man in her life willing to see and accept her for all that she is. With lush prose and captivating, nuanced characters, St. George has created a world that you won’t want to leave.

HISTORICAL ROMANCE

Mercy Goode is only truly good at one thing: finding mischief wherever she goes. Such as getting arrested at a murder scene with Raphael Sauvageau, a brutally handsome, ruthless smuggler with a dangerous past and a dubious future. The silver-tongued devil doesn’t deserve a lick of her confidence, but she has evidence that he’s not the killer.

She can’t deny that he’s relentlessly wicked.

Raphael has no time for obsession. He’s an empire to run, a murder to avenge, and a plan to save his brother that is likely a suicide mission. But this clever, infuriating bluestocking—who insists she’s an amateur sleuth—keeps showing up where she doesn’t belong. And for some bloody reason they can’t seem to be in the same room without him yanking her into his arms and kissing her until they’re both breathless.

Power, prestige, and a staggering fortune hasn’t filled the abysmal void where Raphael’s heart should be…

Perhaps what he needs is a night with her.

Perhaps what he needs is redemption.

Perhaps what he needs is a bit of Mercy.

FANTASY ROMANCE

I always knew I was different.

From a young age, my mind has been plagued with things only I could see. Some hauntingly beautiful, others completely terrifying. Never knowing if these visions were real or just hallucinations, I learned how to lock them down and ignore them. I learned to take solace in the relative anonymity of city life and find peace in the rainy days my city of Seattle is known for.
But just when I think my life is getting on track and my dreams are achievable, a moment of weakness causes me to learn a hard and fast lesson.

My entire existence has been a lie.

Now I’m faced with a new reality that’s as implausible as it is fantastical. Filled with realms and veils, light and dark, fae and daemons, gods and angels–things I don’t understand but am forced to acknowledge. It doesn’t help that the man teaching me about my unique gifts is the gorgeously handsome Carrick Byrne, one of Seattle’s richest and most powerful men. He intimidates, annoys, and intrigues me all at the same time. I don’t trust him and yet there’s no one else to help me.
No longer certain who to put my faith in, what to believe, or how I fit into it all, one revelation is clear…

The world as I know it will never be the same again.

This is the first book in the all-new Chronicles of the Stone Veil series.

Series reading order: The Clash of Yesterday (prequel novella)The Revelation of Light and Dark | A Discovery of Secrets and Fate (2 Mar 2021) | The Evolution of Fae and Gods (23 Mar 2021) | A Battle of Blood and Stone (13 Apr 2021) | The Rise of Fortune and Fury (4 May 2021)

Shana

An intoxicated haze and a pair of handcuffs was not how I planned to spend my first night back in Sunnyville— but up to this point life had been anything but predictable.

Running into my former love was inevitable, but nothing prepared me for the sight of Nathan Donleavy wearing a uniform. After all this time he still made my knees weak and my mouth water— for a split second I couldn’t help but remember happier times.

Then his badge caught the light and reminded me that this wasn’t some walk down memory lane. He was a cop and we were standing on opposite sides of the law.

I see the way he looks at me…I didn’t need his pity then, and I don’t need it now.

Nathan

Shana Callahan was the one that got away.

She was also the last person I expected to see when I showed up to a call. The vibrant, beautiful girl I fell for all those years ago had been replaced by someone else, someone I barely recognized.

My sympathy turned to anger when I remembered her partying ways and how she walked away from me—from us. She might still be lost in her grief, but I had a job to do.

I vowed to protect and serve, but my wanting to protect her had nothing to do with my badge and everything to do with the girl who used to steal kisses from me.

That’s the girl I needed to find buried beneath the anger and hurt. We can do things the easy way or the hard way, but I’m not letting her walk away… again.

This is a standalone novel set in K.Bromberg’s Everyday Heroes World.

ROMANTIC COMEDY

Audrey Fleming never had much of a family or place to call home, so when she gets the chance to buy an inn that once belonged to her late namesake, she doesn’t think twice. Never mind her lack of funds, connections, and experience.

For years, she and her roommate followed on social media the shenanigans of the OGs, three octogenarians who’d been besties with Audrey’s long gone maternal grandma. Au has yet to meet them, but she already loves them. Besides, the small town of Alden seems like the ideal place to lie low. No one would come looking for her in Massachusetts. She’d be safe, far away from Texas and all the ugliness and insanity.

Connor Stonewell, beloved grandson of Greta, OG extraordinaire, was once one of Alden’s Golden Boys. Now he’s a hot mess. He’d never envisioned a future where he wasn’t in the military, so getting discharged after a mission gone horribly wrong has left him adrift in a civilian world he doesn’t know how to navigate anymore.

He’s too dangerous to be around his fellow soldiers—never mind a certain sweet, sexy innkeeper he can’t seem to stay away from. He should stop playing with fire. Pack his shit and disappear for good. Too bad he can’t do it. Walking away from Audrey is something every fiber of his being refuses to do. Plus his dad and grandma are in a war path and need a referee, preferably one who won’t lose it at a drop of a hat and kill them both. So yeah, tall order.

Audrey and Connor both know their secrets will sooner or later catch up with them. Whether they’ll survive or crash and burn under the weight of revelation is anybody’s guess.

This is the third and final book in The OGs series of standalone novels with interconnected characters.

Until someone delivers a bomb to the base.
